Defect points per hundred square metres creep up and get blamed on yarn quality. Second-quality output rises. Warp breaks become more frequent, which cuts efficiency as well as quality, and the mill starts running the loom slower to compensate — accepting a permanent productivity loss rather than correcting a timing fault.
Quarterly against the machine's timing chart, with pick count as the real driver. Any new fabric construction, and any rise in warp breaks or defect points, should trigger a timing check before anyone changes the yarn supplier.
