Loom Beat-Up & Shed Timing

A loom is a timing machine. Shedding, weft insertion and beat-up have to happen in a precise sequence, and as linkages wear that sequence drifts by degrees. The fabric records the drift before anyone hears it: bars, uneven pick spacing and start marks are timing faults wearing a quality costume. Because the loom keeps running, the defect is produced continuously until someone connects the two.

The Procedure
